County Business.

Among the business transacted by the County Commissioners at their session last week, was the following:

In regard to the petition for a bridge over Murdock’s Run, near Patriot—M. G. Keeney, who was appointed by the Board at September term to examine and make estimates—recommended a bridge 72 feet clear span in three short spans. He estimated total cost of bridge, stone work and embankments, at $1045.10. No further action was taken by the Board then to have report filed.

In the matter of a petition for a bridge over Grant’s Creek, where the North’s Landing and Quercus Grove’s road crosses said Creek. M. G. Keeney appointed at September term, reported recommending a bridge 85 feet clear span. Estimated cost of bridge, stonework and embankment, $2,213.92. Report and estimates filed.

Eli Anderson, Wm. C. Lawrence and John D. Brindley, were granted licenses to retail liquors in Vevay.

Thomas Gibbons and others petitioned for a change of highway in Posey Township. Joel D. Davis, John J. Douglas and William J. Keeney were appointed viewers, to meet at the office of J. M. Long, Esq., December 17th.

Wm. H. Scott, Commissioner-elect from Second District, was qualified, (vice Luther C. Buck, term expired) and took his official seat Dec. 3d.

A petition was presented by citizens of York Township, asking the Board to offer a reward of not less than $300 for the arrest of Simon Peter Cooper, for the murder of Augustine Stewart. On account of the indebtedness of the County, the Board did not feel justified in making the appropriation.

The Board issued four County Bonds of five hundred dollars each, ($2,000 in all.) Wm. Hall, of the First National Bank, having agreed to purchase them at five per cent interest. They are payable at the pleasure of the County.

An order was passed by the Board for the guidance of the Sheriff in the care of the Court House, and defining his duties in the matter.

Julius C. Bersott was appointed a Constable for the District of Ira Banta, J. P., in Craig Township.

It was ordered by the Board, that in advertising the allowances made by the Board at each meeting, that the name of the Township Trustee making allowances to the poor, or recommending them, be published and the amount so allowed for each township be stated.

The Board as now constituted is comprised of William Brindley, 1st District; Wm. H. Scott, 2d District; Robert Scott, 3d District.
