State vs. Frank Graham; selling liquor to minor. Two indictments. Plead guilty to one—fined $20. Remaining one nolled.

State vs. Leonard Banta; assault and battery. Plead guilty—fined $1.

State vs. Lett Tandy; being a prostitute. Found guilty—sentenced suspended.

William Waltz vs. Andrew J. Watz; to quiet title. Judgment for plaintiff.

State vs. James Neal; drawing knife. Plead guilty—fined $1.

Samuel W. Rochat vs. Medney Tardy; on judgment. Judgment for plaintiff for $92.50.

State vs. Theodore F. H. Sullivan; trespass. Indictment quashed—defendant discharged.

Eliza B. Rayl vs. John Rayl; divorce—granted.

State vs. Hugh Land; assault and battery. Tried—found not guilty.

Five men all guilty to the charge of public intoxication and were each fined $1.

Editor Vevay Reveille:–We desire, through the columns of your paper, to express our thanks and appreciation of the kindness and benevolence of Switzerland county friends, now of Fresno, California, who, while basking in the sunlight of the Golden State, have not forgotten the poor unfortunate little waifs, who are left fatherless and motherless. California people never do anything by halves. A few days ago the “Orphans’ Friends,” of Vevay, received a letter containing a check for $51.50, written by Mrs. Julia L. Madary, signed also by Miss Lizzie Heath and Mr. W. H. Dow, to assist them in the work of establishing an “Orphan’s Home.” They have the thanks and gratitude of each member of this society for the liberal donation of the work. Switzerland County Commissioners – Mar 1889

COUNTY BUSINESS.

At the meeting of the County Commissioners last week, the Township Trustees presented their reports, which were approved.

Enoch S. Adams, Superintendent County Asylum, filed his report for quarter ending March 7th, showing 45 inmates. Total cost $591.50.

There being a vacancy in the office of County Coroner, Wm. Smith refusing to qualify, Ira N. Banta was appointed to fill the vacancy until successor is elected and qualified.

License to retail liquors were granted to Joseph G. Thomann and Lorin M. Simmons, Vevay; Darwin and Joseph Marshall, Florence.

David Lostutter, William Wallick, Jas. C. Moore, and others, were granted permission to move old iron bridge, 75 feet long, now at Markland and not used, to stream over branch of Grant’s Creek on North’s Landing and Quercus Grove Turnpike. The petitioners are to bear all expense of removal and placing bridge in position.

C. G. Adams, County Treasurer, presented orders redeemed by him during the quarter ending February 28th, amounting to $15,750.85. Found correct and approved.
