The reports were approved.

In compliance with advertisement and previous agreement and announcement that sealed bids would be received up to noon for keeping County Poor Farm Asylum, in the afternoon the bids were opened, being as follows:

  • Dudley Leap, $44.00
  • Wm. A. Shadday, $55.00

The price named is for each inmate per year. Mr. Adams was the lowest bidder.

The Board then voted to adjourn until Tuesday morning for consultation.

Wm. O. Marble and Geo. S. Pleasants, a committee appointed at last session to confer with City Council of Vevay in regard to the order of Council that a sidewalk be constructed on east side of Court House square, from Main along Liberty to Pike street, reported that they had endeavored to get the Council to repeal the order, or at least defer the building of sidewalk to a more convenient time, but Council refused the request and insisted that the work of building sidewalk be proceeded with.

The Board took no action on the report of the Committee.

Daniel Trafelet, Thomas Heady and George McKay were appointed viewers in regard to the petition of E. S. Adams, and others, for change and relocation of road running from Mennett’s Landing, on Ohio river, to Spring Branch Church, Craig Township—the viewers to report at regular term.

Tuesday morning the contract for keeping Poor Farm and County Asylum was awarded to Jasper N. Brindley at $40 per annum for each inmate for two years.

Switzerland County Circuit Court – Jun 1891

Switzerland County, Indiana, Circuit Court reports appeared in:

Vevay Reveille – 18 Jun 1891 – Page 4, Column 3

Circuit Court
Convened Monday morning, Judge Bainbridge presiding.

Capt. A. D. VanOsdol, of Madison and Capt. John B. Cole, of Rising Sun, Attorneys, were here looking after their business Monday.

Up to yesterday evening the time was spent in calling the Docket and making up issues.

The Petit Jury was impanelled this morning.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Pleasants says there are but three criminal cases for trial at this term—Lou Neal, charged with prostitution; originated before Mayor Manning, taken before Squire DuPlan on change of venue, and appealed from him to Circuit Court; Gilmer Kirth, charged with giving away liquor to minors, two cases—originated before Mayor Manning, sent to Squire Kincaid on change of venue, and appealed to Circuit Court.

The above cases will probably come before Court today.

There will be no Grand Jury this term.

As the weather is hot and farmers are very busy, nobody is sorry the docket is light.
