The commencement exercises of the High School took place in the Odd Fellows’ Hall last Friday evening. The house was well filled. The first on the programme was Miss Tina Pusey, who delivered the salutatory of the class. Her subject, “Human Life,” was very well written, and reflected credit upon its author. Miss Emma Blair’s essay, “Vanity of Human Aggrandizement,” was excellent in composition and read well. Fritz Ferger wrestled with the subject of “Ambition,” and did himself much honor. The valedictory, “Have an Object in Life,” was delivered by Robert Colt, and was well written, and delivered in a clear and distinct voice. The entire performance was good, and the class have reason to congratulate themselves of their success. The audience deserves much credit for the order that they preserved throughout the proceedings.—The diplomas were presented by Dr. C. B. Miller of the School Board. The performance of Willie Huber and Hugo Kupferschmidt on the violin, in company with Prof. Roehrig on the organ, was splendid. Mr. Collins Fitch and Miss Emma Blair were presented by the Trustees with a handsome gold pen and holder for having the neatest and best examination papers. The presentation was a complete surprise to them.
