AURORA. This city of 5,500 inhabitants is on the Ohio river and B. & O. and C., C., C. & St. L. Rys., in Dearborn county, 4 miles below Lawrenceburgh court house and 79 from Indianapolis. It was settled in 1819, incorporated in 1848, and is now a growing manufacturing place, supplied with 12 churches, 2 graded schools, opera house with a seating capacity of 600, 2 national banks, good hotels, gas works, electric light and fire department. The press is represented by 2 weekly newspapers, the Dearborn Independent and Saturday Bulletin. The chief manufacturing establishments comprise 2 flour mills, furniture factory, distillery, 1 foundry, 2 chair factories, saw mill, brewery, cooper shop and 2 brick yards. Exp., Am. and U. S. LAWRENCEBURG. The county seat of Dearborn county, is a thrifty manufacturing city of 5,000 inhabitants, located on the Ohio river, B. & O. and C., C., C. & St. L. Rys., 21 miles from Cincinnati. Lawrenceburg is a well-built city, supplied with gas works, electric light, 9 churches, 3 graded schools, 2 banks, good hotels and 3 weekly newspapers—Register, Press and Newsmonger. Prominent among its mills, factories, etc., are 3 flour mills, 1 carriage factory, a planing mill, 4 large distilleries, 1 sawmill, 3 cooper shops, 3 furniture factories, stove foundries, steam pump factory, brewery, 2 brick yards and coffin works.
