The first person listed is the mother and the second person was sued by the state or the mother as the potential father. View the original records for details on the case which may have come before the court multiple times.

Dearborn County Circuit Court Civil Actions 1892-1905

The Dearborn County, Indiana Circuit Court recorded some civil actions, including partitions and foreclosures in a separate volumes between 1892 and 1905. The Complete Record book for the  details the full court proceedings from the start to the conclusion of a case.

The following index includes the names of the main parties, the type of case, and the year the case was settled. The following record books were consulted:

  • Complete Probate Record 27 (1897-1900)
  • Complete Probate Record 28 (1900-1905)
  • Complete Probate Record 29 (1903-1906)

The volumes have varying titles on the binding, but are labeled as above by the Family History Library and Ancestry.

Dearborn County Common Pleas Court Complete Record Index 1853-1871

The Dearborn County, Indiana Court of Common Pleas existed between 1853 and 1873. It primarily handled probate matters as well as other small civil matters. The Complete Record books for the Court of Common Pleas details the full court proceedings from the start to the conclusion of a case. The records contain mostly cases of partition, foreclosure, land conveyances, and other civil actions.

The following index includes the names of the main parties, the type of case, and the year the case was settled. The following record books were consulted:

  • Complete Record 1 (1853-1858)
  • Complete Record 2 (1858-1862)
  • Complete Record 3 (1863-1867)
  • Complete Record 4 (1864-1871)
  • Complete Record 5 (1867-1869)
  • Complete Record 6 (1869-1871)

Since the Court of Common Pleas dealt mainly with probate matters, the records are grouped with probate records by the Family History Library and Ancestry.

Dearborn County Coroner’s Inquests

According to the 1881 Revised Statutes of Indiana, county coroners held inquests over any dead body supposed to have come to his or her death by violence or casualty within the county. Coroners examined witnesses to answer questions under oath about the death and sometimes questioned physicians about the post-mortem examination. After hearing all the testimony, the coroner would make a verdict about the death in writing. The coroner would also make a descriptive report of the deceased, including the name (if determined), a minute description of the person, and any money or valuables found with the body.

Dearborn County, Indiana has 3 volumes of coroner’s inquests, included in the following index. They were viewed on FHL 1313445 and FHL 1313446.

  • Volume 1 (1886-1891)
  • Volume 2 (1892-1912)
  • Volume 3 (1912-1937)

Earlier coroner’s inquests are sometimes mentioned in the county commissioners records. Additional details about the deceased may be found in county and state death records.
