Legal Matters.

Judge Allison commenced a term of Court last Monday morning.

Prosecuting Bellamy is present looking after the interests of the State. He is an efficient and faithful officer.

Sheriff White has dismissed L. F. Hatch and place Adam Wordon in his place. Mr. Hatch was the best bailiff that was ever in the Court House.—John was satisfied with him, but the Vevay ringsters did not want him, and John succumbed. There is not much “civil reform” in this movement.

Samuel Stucy, Street Commissioner of Vevay, has another appointment—riding bailiff for Sheriff White. We don’t blame Sam—this is a free country, and he is entitled to three offices, if he can get them.

If you know of any violations of the law, go up to the highest room in the Court House and tell the following Grand Jurors the particulars:

James Cowan, Frederick Detraz, Eliakim Stoops, Joseph Wallick, Jacob Shaddy, and Philander Morrison.

Following are Petit Jurors:
John Neal, Jonathan David, Elisha Brown, Wm. Spaulding, Samuel Adams, Wm. E. Yonge, James C. Kincaid, Robert A. Knox, Sylvester H. Morrison, Charles Efner, Wm. A. Cross, and Samuel Lostutter.

The following attorneys from a distance are in attendance: Hons. A. C. Downey, S. H. Stewart, and J. B. Coles, of Rising Sun; and Wm. Walker, of Patriot.

While there has been a great deal of quite work done but few cases have been disposed of. A glance at the papers of Judge Allison’s desk almost made our head ache. Several cases are at issue, and to-day Court will be in good working order.
