Hon. Perry E. Bear, of Madison, is attending to the duties of his office—Prosecuting Attorney.

John P. White is foreman of the Grand Jury.

A large number of persons from Patriot and Posey township last Tuesday were witnesses before the Grand Jury.

Judge Friedley, who was in poor health during last term of Court, we are pleased to state is now in very good health. He has commenced letting his beard grow to shield his throat from the winter blasts.

Judge Walker, of Madison, will come up to Court next Monday.

Alfred Rous is assisting Clerk Lee.

COUNTY BUSINESS.

The County Commissioners met Monday, Dec. 2, and adjourned last Friday, 6th.

Wm. O. Marble filed his certificate of election as Commissioner first district, took oath of office and entered upon his duties. He succeeds David Armstrong, whose term was expired.

The other Commissioners are Wm. H. Scott, second district, (who is President of the Board) and O. A. Potter, third district.

Geo. S. Pleasants, attorney, asked to withdraw bill filed by M. C. Walden, claim for services as County Superintendent. Granted.

Benjamin W. Simmons, Ira M. Taylor, Vevay, Francis M. Graham, Frank Scott, Patriot, were granted licenses to retail liquors.

O. A. Potter, appointed at September term to superintend building of bridge at Allensville, reported Nassau Worrall had satisfactory completed work, and the bridge is open for travel. Report approved.

Geo. D. Madary, Trustee, of Craig township, was granted permission to contract a liability for the purpose of liquidating an indebtedness of seven hundred dollars, incurred in building a school house in district No. 5, said indebtedness to be against special school fund, he having no money on hand belonging to this fund. The request was granted.

Dr. R. G. Simpson was appointed to doctor poor at Markland precinct, vice Dr. John S. Woodside, removed. Simpson to receive the same compensation as Woodside, $25 per year, and to fill out his unexpired term, beginning Nov. 1 and terminating June. 1.

In the case of Samuel Shaffer vs. James Stewart and Isabelle Stewart, for road in Craig township. The matter was compromised and each made satisfactory arrangements for private roadway over each others lands, but no public roadway was opened.

William Tait, County Treasurer, filed orders redeemed by him for quarter ending Nov. 30, 1889, amounting to $3,978.73. Found correct.

Bids for County health officer were presented as follows: Dr. H. T. Dalgleish, $70 per year; Dr. J. H. Shadday, $60; Dr. Geo. W. VanPelt, $60. Dr. VanPelt elected health officer for one year.

“Whereas, It appears that David Armstrong is guardian of John Corns, a citizen of this county and now an inmate of the County Poor House and a charge of the county. And, whereas It also appears that there is in the hands of said guardian money belonging to his said ward amounting now to the sum of $511.48.

“Be it therefore ordered, that the County Attorney be required to take such steps as will enable said guardian to pay to the custodian of said John Corns such sum of money annually as will equal the amount now paid by the county for the support of said Corns as such county charge, and as will also secure the proper rebate to the county for such sums so paid by said guardian for the time which said Corns may be an inmate of said Poor House from now on. Also to secure the county from said guardian a rebate sufficient to compensate for the amounts heretofore paid by the county for the support of said Corns.

“Above order concurred in by Board.”
