THE FAIR.
PREMIUMS AWARDED.

The Enterprise Fair, Sept. 14th to 17th, went off in good style and was a grand success, notwithstanding the inclement weather. The attendance on Thursday was fair, and on Friday it was very large, probably 6,000 people were in attendance. The exhibition was full and complete in all departments, the entries aggregating 1,334. The people were quiet and orderly and the gamblers and bummers were about the only persons that did not appear happy. The races were closely contested and exciting. The Ladies’ Departments, as well as Live Stock, had much attraction for the many sightseers. The following synopsis shows who received premiums:

Vevay Lodge of Knights of Pythias – 1886

A Lodge of Knights of Pythias
Was organized in this city last Monday afternoon and night. About noon members of the Madison division came up on the City of Vevay, and were met at the wharf by a committee. They wore handsome uniforms and swords, and headed by White’s drum corps, paraded the streets. They were well drilled, executing military movements perfectly, presenting a fine appearance. In honor of so many distinguished visitors, the streets and business houses were decked with flags.

Switzerland County Commissioners – Sep 1886

Switzerland County, Indiana, Commissioners’ proceedings appeared in:

County Business.

William Brindley, William H. Scott and John F. Houze, County Commissioners, met in regular session Monday, Sept. 6th, and adjourned Thursday, Sept. 9th. The following is a summary of their proceedings:

Ira M. Taylor and Benjamin W. Simmons were granted a license to retail liquor in Vevay.

In the matter of petition of Alma Orem and others for the location of a road in Pleasant township—George W. McKay, (County Surveyor), Perry K. Cotton and Edward C. Shull were appointed viewers. If in their opinion said road is practicable, they will locate it and report at the next term of Commissioners. The viewers will meet at the house of George H. Manford, Sept. 20th.

Charles G. Adams, County Treasurer, presented county orders redeemed by him for the quarter ending August 31st, 1886, and two additional orders issued in September, 1886, amounting to $14,344.88, which were examined by the Board, compared with the stubs and Auditor’s register of orders, found correct and cancelled.

In the matter of the claim of Percy Rous, for damages for moving a creek road on his land—Joseph B. Ramseyer and John Jester assessed his damages at $14.50, which was approved and allowed by the Board, and accepted by Mr. Rous.

In the matter of the petition of Thomas Dyer and others for a bridge over Indian Creek at Knox’s Ford—Continued until December Term, 1886.

John Melcher was employed at $40 to take down that part of the old pier at upper Indian Creek bridge which is yet standing, and to remove it and loose stone around it across the creek and pile it along the west shore of the creek, Wm. Brindley to receive the work when completed.
