Switzerland County Commissioners – Aug 1885

Switzerland County, Indiana, Commissioners’ proceedings appeared in:

At a meeting of the County Commissioners last Tuesday contracts were made for building a bridge on Grant’s Creek. Henry S. Pate, of Patriot, Ind., being the lowest bidder was awarded the contract for the stone work at $3.40 per cubic yard and 30 cents per cubic yard for the earth fill. The Canton Bridge Co., of Canton, Ohio, being lowest bidder was awarded the contract for the iron bridge, at $19.90 per lineal foot. The bridge is to be completely ready for travel by October 1, 1885. This is an improvement much needed by the people in Posey township, and the Commissioners did right in ordering it.

Sheriff Simpson has a boom at the County Hotel, having six guests, all of whom will probably spend the summer with him. The following arrivals are recorded on the register:

Robert Graham, Mt. Sterling; charged with malicious cutting.

James Herrel and Joseph Decker, Ripley County, Ind., charged with stealing cattle.

Wm. H. Spencer, Vevay; charged with larceny.

Charles James, Florence; charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
