County Business.
Among other business transacted by the County Commissioners last week was the following:
Scott Mead and Selar Douglas, of Posey Township, was appointed students to Purdue University from this county.
Supply Walker and others, petition for the vacation of Patriot and Barkworks Turnpike road. There being no objection, the petition was granted and the proper Township Trustees ordered to take charge of the road.
In the matter of Geo. W. Sanders and others, for relocation and change of road—Wm. Mellick, U. H. Stow, and S. B. Hyde, viewers, presented a report making the change asked for. The report was approved and the road ordered located as the viewers recommended.
The Wrought Iron Bridge Co., Canton, Ohio, being the lowest bidder, was awarded the contract for building iron bridge over Log Lick Creek at $41 per lineal foot. Length of bridge 200 feet, and it will cost $8,200. To be completed on or before Nov. 15th.
Martin G. Keeney was appointed superintendent of the construction of Hog Run culvert.
Wm. C. Robinson, County Treasurer, presented orders redeemed by him for the quarter ending Aug. 31st, amounting to $8,026.52, which were examined, compared with the Auditor’s Register of Orders, found correct, and ordered cancelled.
M. G. Keeney, superintendent of repairs and erection of the bridge at Beaty’s Ford, filed his report, showing an expenditure of $346.36 for materials and labor to date. Work not yet completed.
The boundary lines of voting precincts in Jefferson Township were ordered changed. For particulars see notice in another column.
John N. Searcy, formerly Trustee of Posey Township, presented a report claiming that he never received credit in any settlement for [see newspaper].
The Auditor was ordered to sell the stable on the public square.
John Gill was employed to superintend erection of abutments for Log Lick bridge.
M. G. Keeney was employed to get Markland bridge out of the creek and place it on the bank.
Americus Benedict, Ex-Treasurer, who retired from office in Sept., 1881, presented to the Board a statement, claiming that there were errors in settlement of taxes collected by him on the duplicates of 1878, 1879, and 1880, amounting to $442.38, which sum he asked to be allowed on the final settlement between him and the County. The Commissioners appointed Adolph Hilderbrand to examine said settlement and also to ascertain the entire sum due to the county from said Benedict. He to report at a special meeting to be held soon.
J. H. Netherland was allowed $103 for erroneous taxes from 1876 to 1881.
