County Business.
At the session of the County Commissioners last week among other business transacted was the following:
Licenses to retail liquors were granted to Joshua M. Scranton, Jacob H. Bruner, of Patriot; Joseph Burns, of Vevay.
The Canton Bridge Co. being the lowest bidder, was awarded the contract for building iron bridge over the mouth of Indian Creek, at $32.05 per lineal foot. Total length of bridge 160 feet.
Alexander Horton was exempted from paying poll tax and working on the roads—in consequence of being disabled on account of two gunshot wounds received during the last war.
Bids were opened for the building of the stone work for Indian Creek bridge. Banta & Cotton bid $2.40 per yard, including digging for stone work.—Melcher, Gordon & Stucy bid $3 per yard, including everything. The contract was awarded to Banta & Cotton.
Bristow & Lock were awarded the contract for the stone and earth work for a bridge at Beaty’s Ford (on Log Lick Creek). Price $4.95 per yard for the stone work and 20 cents per yard for the filling—balance of the work thrown in.
David Shull, Thomas F. McCreary and Jacob Meyers, reviewers in regard to change of highway on Tardy Hill road, reported that Wm. R. Prostman will not be damaged by said proposed change. The “old road” was declared re-opened.
J. H. Vandorn, for Cleveland Wrought Iron Fence Co., was awarded the contract for placing iron fence around Court House square, at $2.20 per lineal foot.
Americus Benedict, late County Treasurer, presented ordered redeemed by him from June 1st to September 1st—amounting to $5,480.30. Examined, compared with books in Auditor’s office, found correct and cancelled.
Robert Stevens, of Craig Township, who has but one arm, was exempt from paying poll tax and working on roads.
Wm. Lindley and Julius Muret were given the contract for hauling iron bridge from Indian Creek to Beaty’s ford.
