COUNTY BUSINESS.
David Armstrong, Wm. H. Scott and Orson A. Potter, County Commissioners, and D. N. Haydon, County Auditor, met in regular session Monday, June 3d. Among other business transacted was the following:
James C. Long, Assessor, and Eaton Cotton, deputy Assessor, for Jefferson township and city of Vevay; Jackson Land, Assessor York Township; Benjamin F. McIntire, Assessor Posey Township; Robert B. Littlefield, Assessor Cotton Township; George S. Hulley, Assessor Pleasant Township; Joshua H. Means, Assessor Craig Township, presented their assessment lists and statistical returns. Further consideration deferred until the meeting of Board of Equalization June 17th.
Licenses to retail liquors were granted to Scott W. Hopkins, Thomas Delaney, Vevay; John D. Myers, Markland.
Vevay band was granted permission to erect a music stand on Court House yard.
It was ordered that “in contracts with the poor doctors of the several townships, the contracts shall read: To furnish all necessary medicine and attend as physician and surgeon on all paupers and poor persons in their township or precinct.”
The following physicians were employed for paupers and poor persons:
- Jefferson Township, Dr. P. S. Sage, $90 a year
- Cotton Township, Drs. J. W. and C. L. VanOsdol, $48
- Craig Township and Poor Asylum, Dr. P. S. Sage
- Pleasant Township—Bennington precinct, Dr. Scott Culbertson, $30
- York Township—Markland precinct, Dr. John S. Woodside, $30; Florence precinct, Dr. J. M. W. Langsdale, $25
- Posey Township, Dr. E. M. Cheever, $75
Charles G. Adams, County Treasurer, presented orders redeemed by him for the quarter ending May 31st, 1889, amounting to $25,497.56. Compared with records, found correct and approved.
