A post village of Ohio county, situated 10 miles south-west from Rising Sun, the capital of the county, 90 miles south-east from Indianapolis, and 45 miles south-west from Cincinnati. It contains one steam flour mill, one general store, a few trades and professions. Population 50. Post office established in 1852. D. W. Sisson, Postmaster.

BEAR BRANCH.
A post office of Ohio county, on a small stream of the same name, 14 miles west from Rising Sun, the capital of the county, 12 miles north of Vevay, and 90 miles south-east from Indianapolis.
HARTFORD,
A post village of Ohio county, in Union township, situated on Laughrey creek, 8 miles west from Rising Sun, and 80 miles south-east from Indianapolis. It contains a Methodist church, two general stores, one flouring and saw mill, and several trades and professions. Population 114. Post office established in 1830. BASIL L. COOPER, Postmaster.

RISING SUN,
A prominent post town, and the capital of Ohio county, handsomely situated on the Ohio river, 35 miles below Cincinnati, and about 100 miles south-east from Indianapolis. It was laid out in 1810, and is a place of considerable business, containing the county buildings, one Catholic and six Protestant churches, several schools and benevolent institutions, a weekly newspaper, and numerous mercantile and manufacturing branches, including several mills, a large cotton and woolen factory, foundries, distilleries, furniture manufacturers, &c. Population 2,000.
