Lawrenceburg, capital of Dearborn county, on the Ohio river, and on the Indianapolis & Cincinnati and Ohio & Mississippi railroads, 21 miles from Cincinnati, and  90 miles from Indianapolis. This is one of the oldest towns in the State, being contemporary with Cincinnati. It is surrounded by as fine a body of land for agricultural purposes as can be found in the West, but being subject to inundation from the river, it has made very little progress in years past. However, something is now being done to advance its commercial interest and increase its population. The City Council has secured two valuable levees, almost obviating the water difficulties. Several new and extensive manufacturing enterprises are already in progress, one of these is the large furniture manufactory; another a bedstead manufactory; and a woolen mill has been erected by a joint stock company, representing a capital of $100,000, under the style of the Lawrenceburg Woolen Manufacturing Company. Trade is brisk, and all kind of legitimate enterprises prospering. Population 4,500. Express Company, Adams.
