The following is a list of record books covering Franklin County, Indiana from 1811 to 1819.
Early courts and their functions in Franklin County were:
- Court of Common Pleas (1811-1813): civil, criminal, and probate cases.
- Circuit Court (1814-present): civil, criminal, and probate cases.
- Court of Nisi Pruis, Oyer and Terminer and General Jail Delivery (1811-1813): criminal cases.
- County Court (1811-1817): county business.
- Board of Commissioners (1817-present): county business
Although Indiana laws defined the functions of each court, business was conducted and recorded according to convenience, not law. So any time of court business may be found in any court book.
Probate records were handled in the Commons Pleas Court, Circuit Court, and County Court until 1817. County business was sometimes recorded in the minutes of the Common Pleas Court and Circuit Court and was recorded solely those minutes from August 1812 to August 1814.
See Franklin County Court Records for later records.
