Exhibition of School Work at the Fair.

First and second premiums were awarded to the schools having the best papers, and said papers were examined as to neatness, businesslike appearance and penmanship. Our limited time would not permit of examining the papers as to correctness of answers, but when it was difficult to decide, then we looked at the nature of the questions and correctness of answers. We made the following rules: No paper with more than one blot, erasure, or scratch, is worthy of consideration for first premium. We also looked closely at headings and margins.

We awarded the premiums as follows:

  • Jefferson Township, school district number 9. The best paper belonging to Miss Fannie Hagerman; Miss Gullie H. Rous, teacher.
  • Second premium: Posey Township, district number 4. The best paper belonging to Miss Eva Warwick; Miss Mildred Perkins, teacher.
