DARLING. Formerly known as Manchester, is a postoffice and station on the C. I., St. L. & C. R. DILLSBOROUGH. Settled in 1830, is a prosperous village of 500 inhabitants, located on O. & M. R’y., in Clay township, Dearborn county, 14 miles southwest of Lawrenceburgh, the county seat. Aurora, distant 10 miles, is the location of nearest bank. Methodist and Lutheran churches are sustained and produce shipped. Daily stage to Farmers’ Retreat and Friendship. Ex., O. & M, Tel., W. U. KELSO. A hamlet possessed of 150 inhabitants, located in township of same name, Dearborn county, 14 miles northwest of Lawrenceburgh, the county seat and banking town. LAWRENCEBURGH. This manufacturing city of 5,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Dearborn county, is located on the Ohio river, 26 miles from Cincinnati and 89 from Indianapolis. It is traversed by the O. & M. and the C., I., St. L. & C. R’ys, which with the river facilities, gives it good transportation advantages. The city is lighted by gas, has a bonded debt of $71,300, 8 churches, 3 graded schools, 2 banks, 7 hotels, 2 weekly newspapers—Register and Press—and good county buildings and business blocks. This is an important manufacturing city, ranking among the first of its size in the State. Its most prominent establishments include 2 flour mills, 2 carriage factories, a planing mill, 4 large distilleries, 2 saw mills, 3 cooper shops, 3 furniture factories, a stove foundry, washing machine factory, brewery, hub and spoke factory, 2 brick yards, a wheel factory, coffin works, and The McLean Manufacturing Company’s works, who manufacture the celebrated McLean easy rocker, which is the finest of its kind in the market. AURORA. Is an important manufacturing city of 5,500 inhabitants, located on the Ohio river and the O. & M. Ry., 4 miles from Lawrenceburgh court house, 25 from Cincinnati, and 90 from Indianapolis. The city was laid out in 1819, incorporated in 1848, and is an enterprising, commercial city, well lighted by gas, has a good fire department, many substantial business blocks, fine residences, and has one of the most pleasant locations to be found on the Ohio river. It contains 12 churches of different denominations, 2 large graded schools, a fine opera house (seating capacity, 500), 1 national bank, several hotels, and 2 weekly newspapers—Saturday News and Dearborn Independent. Aurora is essentially a manufacturing place, prominent among its mills, factories, etc., are 2 flour mills, a furniture factory, a large distillery (said to be the largest in the State), 1 foundry, a chair factory, 2 saw mills, 1 nail foundry, 2 brick yards, a machine shop, and a brewery. These institutions are in a flourishing condition, and operated very successfully. There is every facility offered here for manufacture, and the cheap river transportation in connection with the railroad, gives it a market all over the U.S., for its manufactured goods. KELSO. Formerly called Dover, with 150 inhabitants, is in Kelso township, Dearborn county, 14 miles northwest of Lawrenceburg, the county seat, and 7 miles northwest of Guilford on the C. I. LAWRENCEBURGH. The county seat of Dearborn county, is located on the Ohio river, C. I. St. L. & C. and O. & M. R. Rs, 25 miles from Cincinnati, and 89 southeast of Indianapolis. The city is incorporated, has a bonded indebtedness of $71,300, is lighted by gas, and is an enterprising, thrifty manufacturing place of 5,000 inhabitants. It has excellent public buildings, six different religious societies, first-class graded and high schools, seven hotels, two banks—and two weekly newspapers, the Press (Republican) and Register (Democratic). The manufacturing interests of the place comprise a saw mill, planing mill, coffin factory, flour mill (with 12 run of burrs), a brewery, pump factory, two distilleries, wheel factory, stove foundry, and four large furniture manufactories, prominent among which is the McLean rocker and easy chair, which is undoubtedly the best chair of the kind on the market. AURORA. Pleasantly located on the Ohio river, in Center township, Dearborn county, 4 miles below Lawrenceburgh, the county seat, 25 below Cincinnati, and 90 southeast of Indianapolis. The place was laid out in 1819, was incorporated in 1848, and is now a flourishing business city, traversed by the O. & M. Ry. Owing to its superior transportation facilities, Aurora is quite an extensive manufacturing place, having the largest distillery in Indiana, and that, together with a large brewery, nail factory, brickyard, two saw mills, one furniture factory, two flour mills, a stave and heading factory, chair factory, and one foundry, comprise the principal manufacturing interests. Among the chief features of the place are its ten churches of different denominations, two handsome school buildings, seven hotels, a national bank, two weekly newspapers—the Independent and Saturday News—and a handsome opera house. The city, from its beautiful location, is very attractive and has an excellent fire department, is well lighted by gas, patrolled by police, and is, in fact, a very pleasant, thrifty place. BRIGHT (Saltillo Village)
