1868 Pleasant Township, Switzerland County Democratic Convention

Pleasant Township Democratic Convention.
Bennington, Ind., March 21.

Pursuant to notice the Democratic and Conservative voters of Pleasant Township, Switzerland County, Ind., met in Convention at Bennington, and organized by electing Jacob Shaddy Chairman and Levi Orem Secretary; after which the following named persons were unanimously chosen as nominees for the various Township offices, to be filled at the ensuing April election:

Justice of the Peace—Emsley Shaddy, Jr.

Township Trustee—Benjamin F. Rogers.

Constables—John W. Smith, David Lock, and Hugh W. Brown.

Road Supervisors:

  • District No. 1. Joseph Lazenby
  • District No. 2. Peter Valentine
  • District No. 3. John Colon
  • District No. 4. A. J. McHenry
  • District No. 10. Harry Henry
  • District No. 11. Wm. J. Cole
  • District No. 12. Levi Orem
  • District No. 13. Van S. Brandon
  • District No. 14. William Holder
  • District No. 15. Silas Smith

On motion voted to appoint a Township Central Committee to complete the ticket, and to transact other Township business.—Emsley Shaddy, David Henry, Samuel Scott, Abraham Montany, and John Rogers, Jr., were chosen as that committee.

Motion to adopt the platform of principles and resolutions of the 8th of January State Convention prevailed.

After distribution of documents, and requesting Secretary to furnish a copy of the proceedings to the editor of the Vevay Reveille for publication, the Convention adjourned sine dis.
